The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a significant honors show nears, you'll find a demand to include additional classifications to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: We need a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these award types effectively encompass numerous genres, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, however the design of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
